Advantages of Machining in Non-Planar Printing with Industrial Robots …
- faster processing, as no support material is required.
- Material savings, thus sustainability.
- Quality of machined parts increases as contours do not include steps or drop areas.
- Stability increases as parts are not layered.
- Oversized machined parts are possible.
- Additional processes such as milling or cutting on the same equipment.
- Rework is reduced.
- Series production by robot system possible.

2D Printing
This printing process has existed for many years. The material is applied in layers from bottom to top.
Disadvantage: Steps are created between the individual layers. The surface becomes unclean due to the stair steps. Especially in flat concave areas.

Freeform Printing
This printing process has existed for many years. The material is applied in layers from bottom to top.
Disadvantage: Steps are created between the individual layers. The surface becomes unclean due to the stair steps. Especially in flat concave areas.

5D Simultaneous Printing
our P3D software also supports this process. E The nozzle is guided around the part in 5 axes. Thus the distance of the nozzle is the same everywhere.
Disadvantage: Due to gravity, the nozzle exit cannot be set too oblique.

8-Axis Printing
With P3D it is possible to print with 8 axes simultaneously. 6 axes of the robot plus 2 rotary axes are supported. This means that the nozzle is always at the correct distance from the part and always perpendicular to the mold axis. There are no disadvantages with this process.

Part Size
Machined parts limited only by the size of the robot. The machining part shown is over 2 meters long and 1 meter high. The printing time was about 8 hours.

all freedoms
The supported systems have all the freedom in terms of accessibility to the areas. In addition to the robot axes, rotary swivel tables are also supported.

Printing on surfaces
The possibility to print on already prepared surfaces, or to create them by means of the milling module on the same equipment, offers numerous possibilities.

Control 4th and 5th axis
The control of additional axes allows the machining of complex non-planar parts without the problem of the pressure direction acting against the physics.
